After you have purchased your chainsaw it is important that you learn more about the various parts that make up what is quite a dangerous power tool. Understanding the important role that each part plays will help to make chainsaw repair and maintenance much easier for you.

As you will soon discover there are certain parts on your chainsaw whether it is a Husqvarna, McCulloch or Stihl model that need more attention paid to than others. By making sure that you take care of the equipment then this will not only ensure that it lasts for many years to come but works efficiently at all times as well.

Below we take a look at just a few of the parts of your chainsaw that will require more attention than others during the time you own one.

1. Chain Catcher - This is one of the most important safety features to be found on any chainsaw today and is often made from plastic or metal. The main role of this part of the chainsaw is to prevent untoward parts of the chain should it break during use flying back towards the operator. If you discover yours to be cracked or a piece missing replace immediately.

2. Chain Brake - This is a relatively new part that has been put on to various chainsaws. In fact the chain brake was only introduced back in the middle of the 1990's. Its main role is to help prevent kickback from occurring when the chainsaw becomes embedded in a piece of wood and the chain is unable to turn. Again if you notice that the cable to the brake is frayed or damaged in any way replace it immediately.
